Els Schepper

“Bedenker van de Speculaaspasta” Temse, België, 1968

If you really want something, you can do it” is Els’ motto. Her gut feel got confirmed by thorough research: there was a huge market potential for spreadable speculoos as many Belgian families spread coffe-soaked speculoos on their daily bread. Finding the right recipe and, even more challenging, a producer for “spreadable speculoos” took months of hard and intense work. In less than 1 year, Lotus Speculoospasta is part of almost evey Belgian breakfast table. And every day Els tells her children that if they have a dream, they should go for it.

Toni Mascolo

Passionate Hairderesser - Naples, Italy, 1943

Cutting hair is more than a job to Toni Mascolo. It is his way of life. In 1957, at the age of 14, Toni arrived in London, not speaking a word of English. Although destined to be a bright law student, he abandoned his studies and turned his hobby of hairdressing into his profession. Today, Toni runs Toni & Guy International, counting more than 400 salons worldwide, and he has collected numerous hairdressing awards. “The success of Toni & Guy has been built on a solid foundation of continued passion for education, now with 24 teaching Academies globally, as well and the constant drive to inspire and motivate.

H. J. Heinz

“To do a common thing uncommonly well, bring success”.

Henry John Heinz was a born entrepreneur with a vision. At age 12, he began selling produce from his mother’s garden to neighbours and shortly after to grocery stores. He founded H.J. Heinz Company in 1869. The first product was bottled horseradish, ketchup in its iconic bottle followed in 1876. Henry was the first to put products in glass to show the purity of the product itself. He also had his own vision on the employer-employee relation. “To do a common thing uncommonly well, bring success”.

Bill Bernbach

Advertising agency DDB - New York City, USA, 1911

“Rules are what the artist breaks, the memorable never emerged from a formula”. Due to an intense love of philosophy coupled with a creative spirit, Bernbach created a brand new approach to advertising. In 1949, he founded DDB (Doyle, Dane & Bernbach). His innate ability at raising awareness, using humor and selling the product – by ultimately making advertising three dimensional – means Bernbach will forever be remembered as a powerful force in advertising.

Thomas De Geest

Entrepreneur (Wafels and Dinges) - Bierbeek, Belgium, 1970

In 2007, Thomas de Geest quit his well-paid job at a major IT company because he had a dream. He studied the art of baking waffles, painted an old Chevy truck yellow and went out on the streets of New York: Wafels & Dinges was born. Not without a risk, but with a healthy dose of humour and entrepreneurship, he wants to realize his ambitious dream: “ seeing as many yellow waffle trucks in New York city as there are yellow cabs”. Today, Thomas has won numerous vending awards and has several trucks on the road helping New Yorkers to enjoy real good waffles.

Franco Dragone

Entertainer, dream maker - Cairano, Italy, 1952

Thirty years on the road and on escapades, from small-scale activity theatre groups to his international entertainment group known world over (Franco Dragone Entertainment Group), not to mention the Cirque du Soleil. Since his first journey, which led the small boy from the South of Italy to the heart of the Belgian Hainaut, Franco Dragone has carried a dream which takes from the imperfections of the world and of human beings, the very source of their beauty. “The world’s most spectacular show maker” is an artist who has never given up on his position as an artisan.
